Remembering my own mother, Virginia Hosford, on this Mother’s Day 2018.
Mother’s first husband (and my birth father) was a combat veteran from WWII where his primary assignment was stretcher-bearer. I’m sure his experiences had much to do with how all our lives played out, because back then, there was no treatment for–or acknowledgement of–how war comes home to the family and changes our veterans forever.
Mother is the one who instilled in me the importance of knowing, honoring, and preserving the stories of our veterans, and I’m quite certain she would have also praised the personal stories being shared in I MARRIED THE WAR, for they are her story too.
Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day,

Beautiful tribute to your mother and all spouses who experience the after effects of combat.
